In chemistry, “analyte”, or the name of a substance or compound, are terms sometimes used for “measurand”. This usage is erroneous because these terms do not refer to quantities.

Measurement implies comparison of quantities or counting of entities.

Note 3

Measurement presupposes description of the quantity commensurate with the intended use of the measurement result, of a measurement procedure, and of a calibrated measuring system operating according to the specified measurement.
