If water related potential environmental impacts have not been comprehensively assessed, then the term “water footprint” can only be applied with a qualifier. A qualifier is one or several additional words used in conjunction with the term “water footprint” to describe the impact category/categories studied in the water footprint assessment, e.g. “water scarcity footprint”, “water eutrophication footprint”, “non-comprehensive water footprint”.
