benefit cost ratio

ratio of the benefits of a project or proposal relative to its costs, expressed in monetary terms

Note 1

Sometimes costs and benefits cannot be expressed in monetary terms, but where at all possible qualitative factors are translated to quantitative terms so that the results are easily understandable.

Note 2

The definition can be expressed in the opposite direction i.e. as a cost benefit ratio.
