open loop

system in which products, components or materials are reused or recycled into alternative products, components or materials in another value chain

Note 1

The input flow comes from a different value chain than the one in which it is reused.

Note 2

An example of open loop recycling is textiles made from an input flow that was not originally used in textile fibre form, such as fibres made from PET bottles.
